We are beginning a study of the Lord's Prayer and the Creeds that will carry us through Lent. This prayer and the creeds tell us much about who we are and what we believe. From that we learn how to live as Christ's ambassadors before the world. Perhaps you've wondered on Communion Sundays where the Apostle's Creed comes from. This class is the place to find out. It's also a great opportunity to get to know more of the people you worship with. We meet from 11:00 to 12:00 in the Youth Room. Childcare is provided.

2010 Budget - 2010 Pledge Campaign

As we approach the conclusion of 2009 we are thankful to God for his continued blessings over our church family and seeing us through another year. Financially, 2009 has been a struggle for our church and quite challenging for a lot of our members personally. But with your efforts, the generous contribution of $100,000 from Los Ranchos Presbytery, and PILP allowing a temporary loan modification equal to another $100,000 in mortgage payment reductions; it appears that we will come close to achieving and/or meeting our budgeted goal for the year. We thank God and thank our steadfast congregation here at Trabuco Presbyterian Church for this good news.

Looking forward to 2010, our total budget will be $700,000 and defined as follows: Our Annual Operating Budget, and The Mortgage Reduction Fund. The two are somewhat interrelated. Let me explain.

The Annual Operating Budget supports all of the ongoing expenses of the church; including our current modified interest only 1st mortgage and second mortgage payments. Combined it’s a $10,700.00 monthly obligation. (1st interest only $7,750.00 and a second mortgage of $2,950.00). This is our largest monthly expense. While that keeps our church current in its debt obligations, it does not reduce the $1.977 million in principal on our mortgage - which we still owe on our beautiful church.

With that said, the second portion of your 2010 pledge will be for the Mortgage Reduction Fund. Every contribution to the Mortgage Reduction Fund either before the end of this year or at any time in 2010 will be used only to directly reduce the remaining principal balance of the church mortgage. Your commitment and pledged support will help achieve the goal of paying off our mortgage debt.

As mentioned, we did manage to keep moving forward in 2009 with the help of important benefactors:
• First, our Presbytery provided $100,000 for our annual budget in 2009. Los Ranchos Presbytery also supported a parking lot resurfacing project and moving expenses for our Interim Pastor in this past budget year.
• Second, PILP (Presbytery Investment Loan Program) agreed to restructure our 1st mortgage so that we only paid an interest only mortgage in 2009 through April 2010. However, we do not have an agreement from PILP that these terms will be extended beyond April 2010.

In these times, we are truly blessed to have the support from the Presbyterian Church. God has seen fit to inspire helping hands to reach out to us, much as TPC has reached out helping hands to mission work and other churches in need in the past.

As good stewards of what God has given to us, it is important for us to demonstrate to the Los Ranchos Presbytery and PILP that they have extended their support in the right directions. Of the many financially struggling churches to which each organization is called to provide stewardship, they have chosen to back TPC in its determination to get back on its feet and make 2011 a year when special help from the Presbytery and PILP are no longer needed.
You will soon receive your 2010 pledge card by mail. Before you complete and return your card, we ask you to pray over your commitment to TPC’s future and help us increase in 3 ways:
• First, let us increase the number of individuals and families making pledges
• Second, let us increase the dollars pledged to our annual fund
• Third, let us make some progress reducing the principal on our church by a second pledge to the Mortgage Reduction Fund.

As 2009 draws to a close, we depend upon our generous congregation to pledge support for the church for 2010. Every individual’s or family’s basic pledge will help support the anticipated $700,000 annual budget for TPC for 2010. You may fill out a pledge card and drop it by the church office or mail it in to the church. You may also click here to make a pledge commitment directly online.

With our continued faith in God and His continued blessings, our journey in 2010 will be a success.

In His name,
Pete Mitchell
Finance Elder

ARTS - Adults Redefining ThemSelves - ARTS

"ARTS" (short for "AdultsRedfiningThemSelves) is much more than a social group. Over 6 years ago we formed ARTS as a part of TPC Fellowship to develop deeper friendships and discover ways to support each other as we began to experience the next stages of life. So ARTS is composed of singles and couples who are in the later years of career, or are looking towards retirement or are already retired, or who are no longer dominantly "child centered" ( i.e. children are now 18+ years old), or who have more discretionary time, or who are seeking new careers and/or exploring volunteering, or are becoming grandparents, or are coping with physical changes and challenges, or are coping with aging parents... and/or all of the above and more!

As we experience these challenges, we are discovering our common experiences and interests and ways to support each other. As God calls us to live in community, we are seeking to grow in our faith and friendship.

If you attend TPC, are experiencing similar changes in your life and would like to get involved in ARTS, then please call Ann Schulze at 770-3120 or email ann.schulze@sbcglobal.net and find out more. We would love to get to know you!

We are planning activities and outings for 2010 so all ideas are welcome! We would plan to be involved in service and outreach opportunities, including our TPC Mission outreach.

Again, please consider becoming an active and committed "member" of ARTS.Email Ann Schulze (ann.schulze@sbcglobal.com ) or call 770-3120.

Frequently Asked Questions - Online Giving

Is it safe to give online?
Yes. In many ways giving online is safer than writing a check in that an electronic gift cannot be lost or stolen. Online giving transactions are processed through a secure service provider. All transactions go directly the church’s bank account.
Why use online giving?
Online giving is a convenient and secure way for donors to give. It is cost effective for the church as it eliminates the manual processing of paper checks and cash.
What types of bank accounts can I give from?
You can give online from either your checking or savings account. This type of electronic transaction is sometimes called E-Checking or Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT).
Can I give using my credit card or debit card?
Yes. You can give online using credit or debit cards.
Who has control and access to my online giving records?
You alone have control and access to your online account. The church finance administrator does receive notification when your online gift is made and what fund it is for, so it can be received and recorded properly. Please use the “Note” box to type in if your gift is for something other than ‘Tithes and Offerings.”
There is the option to “Create an Account” on the giving page. What are the advantages of creating an account?
Ability to view your online giving history.
Ability to set up recurring gifts.
Ability to save payment profiles, which allows your payment information to be saved so you won't have to enter it every time you wish to make an online gift.
Ability to Login quickly with a password.
Can I make a one-time contribution?
Yes. The system allows you the option of making a one-time contribution.
Can I make recurring gift contributions?
Yes. The system allows you the option to set up a recurring contribution, one scheduled to come out of your bank account at dates and intervals specified by you. You have the option of giving weekly, twice a month, every two weeks, once a month, or once a quarter. You have control to start a recurring gift, change it, or cancel it anytime. IMPORTANT: To delete a scheduled series of contributions click the trash can and confirm the deletion for the specified recurring contribution.
Can I change my personal account information once I have set it up?
Yes. Simply log into the system using your user name and password and make the necessary changes in the system.
Can I review my online giving history online?
Yes. The site will allow you to view the history of your online giving. Please note that any contributions you make with a regular check or cash will not be reflected on your online record and therefore the online history report should not be used for tax purposes.
Will I still receive regular contribution statements from the church?
Yes. The church will continue to mail contribution statements to your home for tax purposes. These statements will show both your giving at church and your online giving.
When will contributions be taken from my account?
Contributions will be taken from your specified bank account within 48 business hours of the date you requested and will be deposited directly into the church’s bank account. This time frame allows time for the contribution to process through your bank and the church’s bank. If the date of your contribution falls on a weekend or a holiday, the transaction will be initiated on the next banking day.
How will I know that I set up my gift correctly?
Immediately after submitting your contribution, you will receive an e-mail confirmation from our online service provider – SimpleGive.
Are there any donor fees involved with online giving?
No. You will not pay any fees with an online gift. The full amount of your gift will be tax deductible.
Are there any church administration fees involved with online giving?
Yes. The church pays a nominal $0.24 per transaction fee for each online gift from a checking or savings account. The church pays a normal 2.28% merchant fee for each online gift from a credit or debit card. Because of this fee, we would discourage the use of credit or debit cards when making very large gifts if the donor has other payment options available.
What Funds can I give to online?
The system allows you to select “Operating Fund” or “Other” (for anything other than Operating Fund). The church can add and delete funds whenever needed.
Operating Fund - Funds the normal operating expenses of the church.
Other - Use at this time for anything other than Operating Fund. Please type the designation of your gift in the “Note” box.

If have additional questions about online giving that have not been addressed, please contact our Finance Elder, Pete Mitchell, at homes@petemitchell.com or 949-244-2555.

Pastor Nominating Committee Update - PNC Update

The Pastor Nominating Committee has narrowed a field of more than 250 to 10. 3 have been invited for interviews that will be held in December and early January. All of the remaining PIFs are reread and all have recorded sermons that each member of the PNC listens to and evaluates.

The PNC carries out a process mandated by PCUSA for the orderly replacement of any pastor:
Candidates for PNC were nominated, self-nominated and recruited from the TPC congregation last summer.
Session chose and the congregation approved the 9 member panel: Jennie Baldwin, Shaleen Camery-Hoggatt, Carol Chaffee, Stacy Holmes (Moderator), Craig Repp (Clerk), Kathy Smith, Lisa St. John, Mike Templeman, and Scott Truman. PNC began work in August.
Using the input from TPC’s Vision Day last May, the PNC drafted a Church Information Form (CIF) to comprehensively describe our church and the strengths our next pastor must have. The CIF was completed in September.
Session and Los Ranchos Presbytery approved the CIF.
The CIF was posted by PCUSA on its web site, so that TPC’s pastor position was announced to all Presbyterian pastors everywhere. The CIF was posted late September through early November.
Over 250 PIFs were received by recommendation from Executive Presbyter Steve Yamaguchi and other pastor friends of TPC, by personal application of the interested pastor him/herself and by matching within the PCUSA database.
PNC prayed over and considered each PIF to reach the current point where 10 PIFs remain active. 3 have been invited for interview.

In the weeks ahead,
PNC will determine whether other active PIFs should be invited for interview.
PNC will conduct interviews, background / reference checks, listen to recorded sermons, and visit the churches of pastors with active PIFs.
PNC will nominate by unanimous choice its recommendation for TPC’s next pastor.
Los Ranchos Presbytery will determine if it approves the recommendation.
Session will undertake preliminary employment covenant discussions.
The congregation of TPC will hear the recommended pastor preach at TPC.
The congregation will determine whether TPC will call the recommended pastor to our church.
Session and Los Ranchos will complete an employment covenant with the pastor that is called by the TPC congregation.

PNC is grateful for the prayers and support of the congregation. On behalf of the entire PNC, Moderator Stacy Holmes invites any and all questions and suggestions at fenwayfever@hotmail.com.

TPC Session Update - Session Update

Session met November 19th with the following agenda items:

Elders Bob DeBerard and Don DePue will work with volunteers undertaking an Eagle Scout project to complete a portion of the church’s perimeter walkway.

Updates to job descriptions for TPC staff were considered in a discussion led by Personnel & Christian Education Elder Jill Templeman. Jill also has shared copies of the 2010-2011 Compensation Handbook for Church Staff, a publication of Christianity Today authored by Richard Hammar.

Outreach / Fellowship is ramping up to the Nativity Drive Thru December 5th – 6th. A great deal of advance work has been accomplished. Volunteers for the event are still being recruited.

Pete Mitchell, Finance Elder, led a discussion of the 2009 budget, the development of the 2010 budget, the upcoming pledge drive and the proposed capital campaign. The 2009 budget final tally still depends upon end of year support from the congregation, but Session expects to meet the church’s obligations with the revenue and expenses for the year in balance. The assistance from PILP (restructuring of the TPC mortgage to interest only for 12 months) and the support from Los Ranchos Presbytery ($100,000 contribution to 2009 annual budget) were critical to the 2009 balanced budget. The Finance Committee is working with both those organizations to seek an extension of that assistance for 2010. Session will be addressing the church with its appeal for support of the 2010 annual budget as well as an opportunity to pledge to help pay down the remaining principal owing on the TPC mortgage in the weeks to come.

Missions activities are especially important and prominent during the holiday season. Missions Elder Jill Nagasugi updated Session on the remarkable response to missions programs including over 100 shoe boxes filled with gifts for children in need around the world, cards to American military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan, among many other mission projects throughout the season.

Building Elders Bob DeBerard and Don DePue updated Session on the planned termite treatment of the MPR, the problems with the theater lighting systems in the sanctuary and the proposal development for a new sign in front of TPC. The Christmas Pageant will be performed with construction lights.

The Worship Committee met to plan the November worship services and will meet again to prepare for the Advent services. Worship Elder Stacy Holmes also updated Session on the progress of the Pastor Nominating Committee.

Jim Kovash, Membership Elder, updated Session on programs to recruit, inform and welcome visitors to our church.

At Trabuco Presbyterian Church we believe that marriage is a God given gift. This gift is expressed in a covenant between God, a man and a woman. By having your wedding at Trabuco Presbyterian Church, you affirm that the marriage ceremony is a service of worship. Worship is an act that is directed toward God as we offer our lives to Him. The service is sacred and celebrative, solemn and joyful, serious and glad. As a part of worship, we believe that God's Word needs to be central, because it provides the cohesion for the service. Our hopeful prayer is that being married at Trabuco Presbyterian Church will provide a firm foundation for your married life.

Weddings will be performed for:Members and their families who are part of the membership of TPC and regularly involved in the ministry of Trabuco Presbyterian Church Non-members who are not part of the membership of TPC but are active in the life of the church, and those who are not active at TPC but are seeking Christian marriage.

One or both of you should be confessing Christians.

Even when these requirements are met, the ministerial staff reserves the right to exercise discretion in determining who they can and cannot marry in good conscience.

You may download a copy of our wedding brochure under the tab "forms" on the home page of this website or follow this link: Wedding Brochure

Did You Know? - Los Ranchos Presbytery

Did you know that the Los Ranchos Presbytery paid to have our parking lot resurfaced? Had we not resurfaced the parking lot now, it would have cost significantly more later on as the pavement was deteriorating quickly. When Presbytery asked what we needed help with, this was an area Session expressed concern about. The resurfacing cost approximately $20,000. Thanks to Bob DeBerard for collecting the bids from several contractors. AND thank you to Presbytery for footing the bill! Did you know that because of the Los Ranchos Presbytery’s belief in the success of TPC, we were able to change the terms of our first mortgage to pay interest only for one year? Pete Mitchell (finance Elder) and Michael Templeman (Treasurer) had contacted PILP to discuss renegotiating the terms of our loan without much success. When representatives from Presbytery spoke with PILP and made it clear that they believed in TPC, PILP agreed to change the terms of our first mortgage for a year. By paying interest only for a year, we are able to save approximately $7000 a month to help us financially get back on our feet. Thanks Los Ranchos for believing in TPC! Did you know that the Los Ranchos Presbytery has given TPC $100,000 this year? This amount was gifted to TPC in order to help us financially as we are in the process of finding out next head Pastor. Presbytery understands our financial situation and has responded with generosity because they see great potential in TPC! Thanks Los Ranchos Presbytery!

Missions at Trabuco Pres: to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to others often by helping those less fortunate than ourselves. At TPC our goal is to always have a mission project available to you regardless of your financial situation, amount of time you have to volunteer, or your physical ability. Missionaries We Support: Rubens Muzio in Brazil; the Cowman family in Africa; and Y-Malawi Y-Malawi Update and Trip: Two years ago, TPC sponsored 83 WorldVision Hope children as part of the Y-Malawi Nkhamo ADP project. Praise God that as of December 2008 TPC was actively sponsoring 71 children, an 85% retention rate. This support has allowed the Nkhoma villages to dig wells to eliminate cholera, build three school blocks, and improve food security through irrigation. Y-Malawi is offering a trip to Malawi Nkhoma region from July 19-August 2nd 2009. During this trip we will get to meet with the partners and their ministries, and visit our sponsored children. If you have an interest in this trip or would like to know more about Y-Malawi and the current development work within the Nkhoma ADP, please contact Chris Yragui at 949-678-3070 or yraguifamily@cox.net . You can also get more information via www.Y-Malawi.org. Finally, the Y-Malawi partners will be visiting local church partners in March. There is a Y-Malawi Partners panel discussion planned for March 17th in the evening at San Clemente Presbyterian Church as well as other activities throughout the month. All are welcome. One Great Hour of Sharing: On April 5, Palm Sunday, our TPC congregation will have an opportunity to participate in the PCUSA church wide One Great Hour of Sharing special offering. Please consider participating in this offering, even in a small way, if possible. This once a year offering allows us to join with other Presbyterian churches to support mission programs around the world. Offering Distribution: *36%: Presbyterian Hunger Program *32%: Presbyterian Disaster Assistance *32%: Self-Development of People Fish coin banks will be distributed at the Wednesday night youth programs. All proceeds from these banks will go to One Great Hour of Sharing. To learn more about this offering and mission programs the Presbyterian Church is involved in, please visit www.pcusa.org/oghs. San Francisco Solano Food Bank: The Solano Food Bank needs our help now more than ever! Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus said “When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink...." "When did we give you something to eat or drink?” And Jesus answered, "Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me." Every Sunday, please try to remember to bring your donations and drop them into the “Food Bank” containers in the narthex near the nursery or in the MPR just inside the double doors on the left. You will be blessed! Please call Lori Aced at 888-5501 for more information. Other ways we reach out locally and globally: Collection of Easter (laundry) baskets for the Orange County Rescue Mission. Greeting cards to soldiers away from home. Collection of new and gently used items for the Orange County Rescue Mission during our VBS week. Operation Christmas Child—collection of shoeboxes for needy children. Missions Christmas Prayer Tree: prayer ornaments to take home with prayers for our missionaries and mission projects. Salvation Army Dinners (collection of hygiene samples added this year) Alternative Christmas Market: supported Third World Hand Arts; Habitat for Humanity; and TPC mission projects.

There are many ways to meet new people and get connected at TPC. Also, there are many ways to serve the Lord and have fun doing it!

Consider joining a COMMITTEE:

The Fellowship Committee is always in need of new members. The commitment includes a monthly meeting and then helping with the event, if you are available. Even if you can only help with one event, it would be very helpful. You will find that you receive more than you give, should you be able to participate. Please contact the church office 589-5110.

The Missions Committee offers many ways to serve. Quarterly they serve dinner at the Salvation Army in Santa Ana. Please contact Deanne Weissman if you would like to help. The Missions Committee also actively supports the Orange County Rescue Mission. Please contact Jill Nagasugi for serving opportunities at the Rescue Mission and other missions projects.

BIBLE STUDIES are another way to get involved:

The Men's Bible Study meets at 6am on Tuesdays. Contact Jim Gaston for more information.

The Women's Bible Study meets at 9am on Tuesdays. Childcare is available. Contact Kathy Smith for more information.

Wednesday Evening Adult Bible Study Class led by Pastor Dave is at 6:00-7:00 pm (The Book of Galatians) in the Sanctuary. Childcare available.

Every Sunday, an Adult Education Class is offered following the worship service in the Youth Room - led by Craig Rozean. Attend worship first, then stay for the class. A children's program is offered during this time.

Become a MIDWEEK VOLUNTEER(Children & Youth):Pathfinders/Trailblazers (1st - 6th grade) meet Wednesday evenings 5:30 - 7:00. Contact Leanna if you'd like to help.

Vision (7th *& 8th graders) meets Wednesday evenings from 7:15 - 8:45 pm. Contact Casey if you'd like to help.

Agape (9th - 12th graders) meets Sunday evenings from 5:30 - 7:00. Contact Casey if you'd like to help.

Consider joining the ARTS GROUP. ARTS is for couples and singles who are experiencing and sharing the challenges of the "empty nest', later in life career changes, approaching retirement, or in active retirement, becoming grandparents, etc. Contact Ann Schuzle for more information.

The TPC CHOIR is always welcoming of new voices. They meet Wednesdays at 7pm in the sanctuary. Contact Cindy Hutcheson for more information.

HELPING HANDS MINISTRY This ministry is coordinated by your Deacons for each TPC Parish. Helping Hands is available to TPC Parish members for those short-term needs such as illness, births, hospitalizations and medical treatment. Assistance typically includes meals, errands, grocery shopping and transportation for appointments.

The Deacons call upon members of the congregation who are willing to volunteer and be of service when these needs arise. If you would like to participate and be a part of our Volunteer Roster, contact your Deacon or contact Ann Schulze. 713-3120
